Crosby weathered his heroin way better. Garcia couldn't fucking play the last 15+ years of his life he lost so most guitar dexterity to the needle. It's pathetic how much Deadheads overrate him as a player. It's an exercise in cherry-picking 20,000 hours of boots for individual songs where he was on his game then ignoring the 92% of all other evidence to the direct contrary. He was a casualty long before he became a casualty.

Crosby also had his come-to-Jeebus moment about getting clean (albeit taking an organ transplant to get there) and has paid it back somewhat by being musically quite productive in his dotage. There's no such redemption in what tricks Dead, Inc. had to pull to get Garcia out on stage upright every night for the profit margins of the smelly traveling multinational corporation they became.

Crosby. And only because he's associated with Ohio, which is a great song. But they are both terrible.

I only like one song that Garcia was involved in, and a good handful for DC.

I actually like (some of) the music Crosby was involved with.

Maybe Crosby wrote a line or two from that musical revelation.

David Crosby was in the motherfucking Byrds, one of the best American bands ever. Not even sure if I've heard a Grateful Dead song, don't think I'd want to.

Good point. I forgot about the Byrds. And no, you absolutely do not want to hear and GD songs.

Hello,

I abstain as I know very little of either. I'm not in a rush to hear any of their stuff.

Yeah, I'll go with Crosby, but only because of the Byrds - the Dead annoy me to no end and I loathe CSN.

Don't know any Dead songs that I like I don't care care for all that musical noodling. And I pretty much agree with everything JennyB said.

That album is better than its reputation, tbh.

It's reputation is bottom of the barrel, right?
