Thank you man, you are an absolute gent.
BTW, picked up the expanded In the Studio recently and have been listening to that a lot post-Tuesday. Not as effortlessly great as their first two albums, but there's a moral clarity and sense of purpose to that release that's been feeling perfect this week.

You are most welcome mate. "In the Studio" will never be a match for the energy of those first two albums but it is an album that tackles some serious issues and is very brave in it's approach of following on from what is a winning formula. It gets better with each new play for me.Flex wrote:Thank you man, you are an absolute gent.

Re: Flex's Special Friday.
Without wanting to go over old ground I consider The Specials post More Specials to be a different band in as much the same way as The Clash that released CTC is not the same band as the earlier line up.Flex wrote:Thank you man, you are an absolute gent.

A different line up of the same band for me. I have argued this before but it's a revolving line-up how I see it.101Walterton wrote:Without wanting to go over old ground I consider The Specials post More Specials to be a different band in as much the same way as The Clash that released CTC is not the same band as the earlier line up.Flex wrote:Thank you man, you are an absolute gent.

Current members
Lynval Golding – rhythm guitar, vocals (1977–81, 1993, 1996–2001, 2008–present)
Horace Panter – bass guitar (1977–81, 1982, 1993, 1996–2001, 2008–present)
Terry Hall – vocals and songwriting (1977–81, 2008–present)
Tim Smart – trombone (2008–present)
Drew Stansall – saxophone, flute (2008–present)
Nikolaj Torp Larsen – keyboards (2008–present)
Steve Cradock - lead guitar (2014–present)
Pablo Mandleson - trumpet (2014–present)
Gary Powell – drums (2016–present)
Due to John Bradbury sadly passing away and Roddy Byers leaving there are now only three original members. That means there were more original members on the "Guilty 'Til Proven Innocent" album. There were more original members in The Special Beat than what's in the current line-up.
Rhoda Dakar sings some of the vocals on "In the Studio" but she also sang on "More Specials". Personally I think people have a problem with the musical change more than those that played on the album.

I don't disagree although obviously the current line up doesn't record and is more of a tribute band for want of a better term.Marky Dread wrote:A different line up of the same band for me. Not that I blame them but I expect it's more of a cash cow.101Walterton wrote:I don't disagree although obviously the current line up doesn't record and is more of a tribute band for want of a better term.Marky Dread wrote:A different line up of the same band for me. Yes I'm sure it gives them a nice income and whilst people want to come and watch why not.Marky Dread wrote:Not that I blame them but I expect it's more of a cash cow.101Walterton wrote:I don't disagree although obviously the current line up doesn't record and is more of a tribute band for want of a better term.Marky Dread wrote:A different line up of the same band for me.
