this was the DJ setlist:

Looks awesome. I wish we had something like that up here. There's going to be a tribute concert next month that my friend's band is participating in. He wouldn't tell me which songs they had chosen, but he asked if I knew how to play the bassline for Ashes to Ashes, as he was having trouble with the slapping parts.

The pre-chorus from "Never Let Me Down" sounds like the pre-chorus from "Pillow Talk" by Sylvia 1973
We reach the parts other combos cannot reach
We beach the beachheads other armies cannot beach
We speak the tongues other mouths cannot speak

My copies of Tonight & Never Let Me Down are practically mint. Not a scratch/pop to be found!

NLMD isn't as bad as people say. Especially side 1. I could never get used to the weird "Bang Bang" cover cuz Iggy's is so good.

Tonight is lousy bar a couple of tracks. NLMD isn't so bad and I agree about that cover. Iggy's "Bang Bang" is brilliant.

Agreed on all counts. NLMD is miles better than Tonight, which is awful and almost irredeemable aside from 2-1/2 tracks. NLMD is just a bit tired and trapped in the horrible production of the time. I believe Bowie admitted in later interviews that he just didn't spend enough time or focus on production issues.

It's baffling that one of my all time favorite artists could cover one of my all time favorite songs and make it nigh-unlistenable for me.

as far as his Iggy covers go, i think Bowie's China Girl is a lot worse.

Ahh no I think David's version of China Girl works as a fine Pop song. ;)

Ridin' in a GDR Trabant, Jim, ya know those were different times. Iggy's in his cups and David's in a vest, and me - i'm in a Chinese brothel doing mime.

Bowie's version of China Girl is immense.

Gotta say there's something quite endearing about his cover of Waterloo Sunset, though it obviously doesn't better the original.

Plus, it dug Iggy out of some financial troubles, right?

Best of his Iggy covers by a damn sight, and a fantastic rearrangement.
