I've probably heard Ashes to Ashes, no exaggeration, over 1,000 times. But I was just strumming it out on an unplugged electric guitar and the lyrics broke my heart. Not because Bowie is dead, but because of how much heart is in those words. It's the saddest song about addiction I've heard.

And it's simultaneously completely danceable to. I've been on many a beer-stained dance floor completely lost in the rhythm and melody of that song without the words ever hitting me like the ton of bricks they are. That's music, children. This last Bowie marathon binge has pushed him from a top ten artist for me into a creative musician I respect above the rest.

The unreleased 12'' dance mix.

Today I had the part of The Width of a Circle where the backing vocals kick in looping for quite a while.
I've had the intro to Width stuck in my head all day. Definitely top 3 Bowie songs for me. Ronsons solo kicks ass and I love the "turn around, go back" section.

oh no. hopefully not the pawn shop? don't you have any of his stuff on CD?

last few days, any time someone mentions a song i have to put it on or YouTube it to try and get the feelings that particular poster is experiencing. kinda dumb, but makes me feel good.

My receiver, that connects the good speakers to living room TV, and all other media is at a repair shop as the speakers were turning off and back on for no apparent reason. The repair shop is dicking me around, I'd rather not bore with the details, I wish I took it somewhere else.

I have a few Bowie's on CD, playing on a dusty boom box that was in the garage. (and watching TV on the speaker that comes with it)

It will be fine, it's just probably gonna cost me a few bucks. At this point, I just want it back, it's been out 15 days

The live version from Ziggy Stardust : The Motion Picture DVD is absolutely amazing much better than the studio version the whole 15 mins of it. I never knew how great a guitarist Mick Ronson was till I saw that
Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise. I said, "Listen, mate, "life" has surface noise."

That version is one of the few songs that actually gives me chills. I absolultey love watching him and Trevor battle it out. That whole gig is just amazing. Cracked Actor especially. One of my favorites.

What is the best live recording of Ziggy in its entirety (Or near enough)? Performance and sound.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Yeah, that's the consensus best live document of the era.

I made a mix of Ziggy out f live versions once, and as far as I can tell, Soul Love and Star weren't done live until 1978. I would say a mix of Santa Monica and Bowie at the Beeb is the best solution.

I think I raved about it on these very boards, but picking up the Santa Monica '72 reissue is pretty much what finally buried the needle for me in terms of becoming a major Bowie fan.
