Cheers, Hes. That was fucking great. Very cool video too. So who is this geezer? A one-hit-wonder or some such?

Two hit wonder. He also sang "You'll Always Find Me in the Kitchen at Parties", which featured Kirsty MacColl on backing vocals.

Sorry Heston, not actually a Christmas song.
It's an anti-war song, and was released earlier in the year in most of Europe. The 'wishing to be back home for Christmas' was how the general opinion of the Great War's length would be when it kicked off in 1914 - much like the Basque children being told it would only be for about three months when they were evacuated in 1937.
Mind you, they did 'Christmas' up the sound quite a bit, didn't they?

Yeah, I'm aware of the history of the song, seen it covered in a few documentaries. It's totally accepted as a Christmas song in the UK now though, along with the usual suspects.

There are a clutch of great songs that aren't specifically "Christmas songs" per se, but have gained that currency over the years. Joni Mitchell's River is one of those that comes to mind. Good pick, Hes. Sometimes I forget that you actually like some good music too.

25 Days of Christmas (Songs) - Day 13

The Fab Four - Silent Night

Original release: Have Yourself a FAB-ulous Little Christmas
Year: 2002

The Fab Four do their thing with another Beatle-fied take on a Christmas classic. The Fab Four overlay Silent Night on top of Norwegian Wood this time. Killer stuff.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

That Toasters album rules. I picked up the vinyl reissue from Jump Up Records last year. Think it's still available if anyone needs a last minute holiday music score.

25 Days of Christmas (Songs) - Day 14

Tina Sugandh - White Christmas

Original release: Christmas with the Kranks Soundtrack
Year: 2004

Another good song off a weirdly good soundtrack for a shitty movie (actually, Christmas with the Kranks might be my least favorite Christmas movie ever). Dig it.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

25 Days of Christmas (Songs) - Day 15

The Chevelles - Come All Ye Faithful Surfer Girls

Original release: Little Steven's Underground Garage Presents Christmas A Go-Go
Year: 2008

Since it was 2 degrees (that's -16.6 degrees Celsius for those of you living under the tyranny of the metric system or whatever) when I walked the dog this morning It's time for a little surf pop holiday fun, right? Right.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
