I actually kinda like the disco-fied Here Comes the Night. Great Carl vocal, and it does have a nice groove.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

The greatness of the Beatles may well come down to them just quitting rather than shoehorn contemporary styles to get airplay.

1978 Paul would 100% have foisted a disco song on a bored, bearded Beatles to sleepwalk through.

Do it Again is great.

Also,

That's some mean cymbal playing by Dennis at 1:10.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I was going more for cold-sweat relief that we don't live in that alternate reality, but I'll take it.

Oh, my 2¢ on "Do It Again": catchy, slight, fun but a harbinger of the Mike Love nostalgia takeover that took its first full flower in 15 Big Ones and led directly to Kokomo and even worse tracks.

Just think if the band disbanded after Love You. One listenable nostalgia album and then a bizarre masterpiece and then finito. The Beach Boys legacy has been rehabilitated just fine over the years, but subtracting post-77 material would have done a lot to improve an argument that they were great from beginning to end.

Or: What happens if Brian, less brain-fried and more confident, asserts his vision of the band as avant pop artists, and Mike petulantly quits and moves in with Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate?

Listening to Love You now. What the fuck is this Johnny Carson song? It's kinda catchy tho.

Side Mike Love Rape Van observation: "Rock and Roll Music" cover is usually included in their compilations, but god is it bad.

Holy crap but that's awful. It hearkens back to the bad old days of lifeless white cover versions in the 50s that kept black artists off the radio.
