I think your critique was thought out well enough to avoid such things. Or we're all just growing up.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑23 Apr 2018, 2:21pmI do have those albums, obtained via skullduggery long ago, so now I know what to focus on if I want to create a beachhead of sorts.Kory wrote: ↑23 Apr 2018, 1:00pmWell thanks for checking it out. The croon is something you can't really get away from unless you go earlier into the glam or folky stuff and I doubt you'd be into that much. IF you ever wanted to hear more I think I'd go with Flex's suggestion to just check out the whole Low and Lodger albums. Since you liked "Red Money," I might also recommend Iggy's The Idiot, as that backing track appears there too (the whole thing was co-written with and produced by Bowie).
And yes, Joy Division did get their earlier name from "Warszawa."

Re: The Challenge Thread
Here are my findings from my Killing Joke challenge, brief as they may be at times.
Wardance - Pretty good song, reminds me a bit of "Eighties". Not as poppy though right? Im curious how I would have received this song in 1980.
Eighties - the one song Im familiar with. Like I said, kind of poppy, not in a Britney Spears sense but poppy in an 1980s edgy sense. I like it but not crazy about it.
Another Bloody Election - Like it. Cynical lyrics about politicians, sign me up.
Pandemonium - Starts off promising, but gets a little dull and drags on. 2nd least favorite.
Seeing Red - Good song, it sounds familiar, as I listen I realize it reminds me of a band Monkhouse who were probably heavily influenced by KJ.
This Tribal Antidote - I like it, has a light industrial feel to it.
Here Comes the Singularity - Sounds like that Modern English song. I like the lyrics, hate the music (see prior comment). How is this song not from 198X ?
Corporate Elect - My second favorite. Yeah this totally works for me. I am so easy to please.
I am the Virus - Great track both musically and lyrically, probably my favorite from what Ive heard.
Tension - Least favorite, the song didn't seem to go anywhere. Two Hoy thumbs down, wait would that mean its good?
Overall impression is positive. Would love to hear an album suggestion based on my findings.

You're probably best suited to any 21st c release, tho be warned that I was selecting what I thought would appeal most to you. Even the more recent albums have more "accessible" songs. They play a lot harder now, overall, but there is still some variety in their approach. Their first album, the one with "Wardance," is pretty key, too, as a step towards bridging punk and metal, along with laying the foundation for industrial.revbob wrote: ↑23 Apr 2018, 7:03pmHere are my findings from my Killing Joke challenge, brief as they may be at times.

Is "accessible" code for I would hate it? I would count myself as a casual fan at this point. Id probably borrow some more stuff before making a purchase.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑23 Apr 2018, 7:59pmYou're probably best suited to any 21st c release, tho be warned that I was selecting what I thought would appeal most to you. Accessible would be akin to what you call pop. More synth-oriented dance music, slower and quiete4 songs. The lyrical tone is pretty consistent, but they're more varied in style.revbob wrote: ↑23 Apr 2018, 8:08pmIs "accessible" code for I would hate it? I would count myself as a casual fan at this point. Any XTC virgins on here? Would love to do a primer compilation for someone.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

Re: The Challenge Thread
Just as a reminder, I've got a Cocteau Twins list that's mostly off the beaten track—I think just three songs off the Stars and Topsoil compilation—ready for the posting should anyone be tempted.
