Re: The Kaleb Horton Deceased Latvian Foreign Minister Thread, 2024 Edition
I also just saw that Eric Carmen passed away. He's known to many for his slick 80's hits, but he did some excellent work with the Raspberries in the 1970's. They're not my favorite power pop group (a bit too lite), but they had some great tunes.

Goat's Head Soup is a damned fine record. I recently picked up a copy of the original CBS CD from the early 80s and it's the best sounding version of this LP other than the original LP. The 1994 Virgin is a close second. The 1999 Universal is terrible. Compressed to the brink of death.

Re: The crummiest music videos ever
These “early U2 and Radiohead are the only good eras” takes are wild to me. Auchtung Baby and OK Computer are terrific. I'll stand by my assessment that U2 have never released an outright bad record. Their biggest crime these days is playing it too safe and clinging to the U2 sound. No Line on the ...

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has recently approached the N.F.L. quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the former Minnesota governor and retired professional wrestler Jesse Ventura about serving as his running mate on an independent presidential ticket. Both have welcomed the overtures, people familiar with the di...

One of the bands I discovered through 120 Minutes back in the day. Karl Wallinger was one helluva songwriter. I don’t dig Robbie Williams, but his biggest hit was palatable because it was originally a Wallinger tune. RIP.

Kimmelwick's post sent me down the Cars rabbit hole today... which is a good thing. They're one of those bands I somehow forget about, but then listen to and realize they have a lot of really great tracks. I remember being in a bar in Boston maybe 15 years ago - quite drunk - and they were blasting ...

Never ever forget that you are all awful people and my sole goal in surviving is so that I can slip a copy of Aja in your coffin so you can ride with Steely Dan for all eternity. :naughty: I understand your desire to share your favorite artist with everyone you meet but take a hint already I've alr...

You mean The Cars were not punk? Stupid categorisations. The Cars were definitely New Wave. Even with the blurring in the US regarding punk and New Wave, there was never any doubt what side of the line the Cars were on. Archetypal New Wave, really. You mean New Wave isn't Punk? There's c...

And also, I love Ric Ocasek but Benjamin Orr was seriously underrated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msAcTMKMSKA A cool thing about Ocasek was that he was cool with sharing the limelight. He was the band's sole songwriter, but he gave Orr some really great tracks to take the lead on, including so...
