Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread
Just reading a rather uplifting interview with Marianne Faithfull which mentions a collaboration with Mick which on further digging, i learn is guitar on the track Give My Love To London. Nice to know as i really love that song.

Re: What Are you Listening to Right Now?
Toss up between Dylan and Bill Callahans Gold Record for me. Though have to admit i've probably listened to no more than a tiny percentage of new releases, find it hard to keep up these days.

Re: Top 5 Music Videos
Casbah London Calling The Call Up Tommy Gun Radio Clash Why no video for Know Your Rights? Lead off single from a new album, even though it should never have been a single. SISOSIG or Casbah would have went top ten even without Top of the Pops if they'd been released before Combat Rock. They were c...

For history nerds, the story of how the New York Times got the Pentagon Papers is not how we believed: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/07/us/pentagon-papers-neil-sheehan.html Basically, reporter Neil Sheehan stole them from Ellsberg. A really fascinating piece and will, i'm sure, make a riveting mo...

Haven't seen this in years, all i can really remember about it is shanes cackling which for some reason i found hilarious at the time. Would be nice to watch again. Frank Murray was a total gent and great storyteller.

Re: Heston and Marky's Friday Top 5
Am I the only one here who doesn't give a shit about the Beach Boys? I'm a bit different in that i have come to liking them a lot since i started listening to them 9-10 years ago, but i still never got into pet sounds. Maybe i was expecting too much having heard so much about it, just dunno really....

Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread
Concur with the comment about Out of Time being uneven. But i would say when it's great, that album is really great so still gets the greatness tag from me, despite the couple of obvious clangers. I also think objectively SHP is not a bad pop-rock song, it's just quite annoying after a few too many...

Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread
I also heartily endorse the general tribute album thumbs down. Off hand, can't think of a single one i've ever wanted to repeat listen. I know some liked it ok, but apart from the brilliant mikey dread take on SoS, i thought the S! project thing was pretty awful overall. The few I can remember liki...

Re: The Clash observations thread.
We get the government and institutions we deserve as most people are put off totally understandably by politics but that's exactly what the rich and powerful want and work towards (Murdoch again!), we need those who get down in the dirt and try to make our democratic institutions of power work and ...
